Meet Hebe Hare: The Character Behind the Collection
Every story has to start somewhere, and ours starts with a hare.
Hebe was the first character Rose ever made for Thicket & Thimble — sketched on a scrap of paper at the kitchen table, stitched from Irish linen, and given a name that felt as old as the hedgerows. She was never meant to be a product. She was meant to be a friend. And somehow, that is exactly what she became — not just for Rose, but for thousands of collectors and gift-givers around the world.
A Character, Not a Template
Hebe is not simply a doll shape wearing different outfits. She has a personality — curious, slightly mischievous, the kind of creature who would turn up uninvited to a garden party and somehow become the guest of honour. Rose imagines her living at the edge of a wildflower meadow, where the light goes golden in the late afternoon. That spirit runs through every edition.
And there have been dozens of editions. Each one is a self-contained world — a mood, a season, a story told through fabric and thread.
Editions That Tell a Story
Gold Leaf is perhaps the most extraordinary Hebe ever made. Her dress is finished with genuine 24-karat gold leaf, applied by hand. She is art as much as she is doll — precious, luminous, and utterly unrepeatable once her edition of 100 sells through.
Confetti Sparkles is pure celebration — glitter tulle and confetti dots, the kind of doll you would give to mark a joyful occasion. Gatsby channels 1920s glamour with beaded detailing and jazz-age sophistication. Wild Rose is an English garden in high summer, all soft florals and tumbling petals. And Stars at Dusk captures that particular magic of a clear evening sky — deep blues scattered with tiny, shimmering stars.
Hebe for Every Budget
The heirloom Hebe Hare dolls — at 45cm, hand-embroidered and limited to editions of 100 — are the crown jewels of the collection. But Hebe is also available in forms that suit different purposes and budgets.
The Keepsake Hebe (from £72) is a smaller, 37cm version printed on linen with watercolour artwork. She features the same beloved characters printed on natural linen with original watercolour artwork — a beautiful keepsake doll, perfect for sitting on a nursery shelf or displaying in a bedroom.
The Hebe Lovey (£39) is the smallest and snuggliest of the family — 27cm of handcrafted woodland charm — the smallest and most giftable member of the Hebe family, perfect for a nursery shelf or collector's display.
Why People Collect Hebe
There is something about Hebe that invites collecting. Perhaps it is because each edition is so distinct — you might adore your Stars at Dusk Hebe and still find yourself completely enchanted by Gold Leaf. Or perhaps it is simpler than that: she is the kind of character who makes you want to keep her close.
Whatever draws you to her, you will be in good company. Hebe Hare has found her way into nurseries, living rooms, and collector's shelves across the world. She is, and always will be, the heart of Thicket & Thimble.
